A first kiss is nerve-wracking under any circumstances—but turn a camera on it and things can get downright awkward. Wren sought to capture this sweetly unnerving moment, calling on filmmaker Tatia Pilieva to record 10 couples sharing their first kiss.
The catch? Each person is also meeting the other for the first time. “I’ve directed a few sex scenes before—this was a lot harder,” said Pilieva. “My first instinct was to call ‘cut’ the moment people finished kissing but I painfully made myself wait and allowed the moments to breathe. The most beautiful moments took place when nothing was happening.”
