Smart Gloves that Combine High Technology With Performance Art

Anina Net, fashion tech entrepreneur with over 10 years experience in the merger of fashion and technology, unveiled a smart glove at the CCTV Spring Festival Gala 2017

An Intel + 360Fashion Network-developed smart glove synchronizing 162 dancers’ movements simultaneously to create a human light pattern was unveiled on China’s CCTV Spring Festival Gala on January 27, 2017.

Created for Intel’s cooperation with the CCTV Spring Festival Gala “Spring Wind” dance performance by executive director Jiang Gang (see video below), the smart glove is powered by Intel® Curie™. The lighting pattern is controlled by gesture recognition using the 6-axis combo sensor with accelerometer and gyroscope to synchronize the 162 dancers’ movements together with a custom-made LED shield embedded into the palm of the glove.

With plans to create a commercial fashion tech smart glove beyond the “Spring Wind” performance, 360Fashion Network added a mobile app to support users to control their own smart glove.

The app uses the Intel® Curie™ Bluetooth-Low Energy module and allows individual users to self-program their smart glove for use in performing arts, interactive installations, urban mobility, and for dance performances.

The app includes several features:

  • Pixel by pixel LED light coloring design
  • Individual light ring coloring and animation
  • Solid color picker
  • 3 preset lighting animations
  • Freestyle Mode, allowing the wearer’s gestures to control the lighting pattern
  • Battery optimization interface, to help users understand the glove’s power consumption and length of time to shine

360Fashion Network is collaborating with fashion designers to create unique smart glove designs, which are expected to launch in Q3 of the United States 2017 financial year along with several other tech-enabled fashion products.
