Giorgio Armani may have tailored the power suits of the 1980s, but it was the revolutionary unstuffing of men’s jackets that was his real contribution during the decade.
Fall 2014 continues his signature soft silhouette with jackets-playing-cardigan, loosely-waisted drawstring pants, and big coats with the belted ease of bathrobes – all eminently comfortable but never sloppy. There was even an underlying quality reminiscent of the 1989 Armani ads shot by photographer Aldo Fallai, from the greige palette to the pared down proceedings that left the burden of narrative just to the clothes.
