Fairmont Singapore presented their first Ambient Experience Concept Suite in Asia-Pacific, which is developed by Philips, and aimed at enhancing the in-suite hotel experience for the business traveler.

The concept suite forms part of Philips’ “Hotel of the Future” initiative, which itself is one of three areas that Philips is focusing on this year in its overarching Simplicity campaign; the other two being the healthcare sector, and mother-infant wellness.

Philips’ Ambient Experience Concept Suite basically makes use of a play of different lighting fixtures, effects and colors to create different moods, and was first showcased in London last year.

To create these moods, special light installations have been carefully positioned around the room. Guests choose from four pre-set themes – Rise, Perk, Lush and Rest – on a remote control which coordinates the different lighting effects to suit various occasions.

For example, in the Rise mode, a huge square lighting feature hangs above the bed, and combines well with Philips’ Wake-up light to emit an amber glow that gradually intensifies to mimic the effect of sunlight to rouse you from your snooze, instead of an alarm clock.

Inconspicuous motion-sensor activated lights mounted on the walls near the floor illuminates your way to the bathroom in the middle of the night.

In the bathroom, a ceiling fixture directly above the bathtub has embedded LED lights that emit a soft blue glow to create a starlight experience. The soothing blue also permeates the entire room just before guests retire for the night in the Rest mode.

Selecting the Lush mode washes the room in a swath of purple light – a perfect setting for a candlelight dinner for two, or an in-suite movie experience.

While Fairmont says it is currently working with Philips to develop a prototype room, it has not revealed how many rooms in Fairmont Singapore will feature the Philips Ambient experience, and whether these rooms would eventually make their way to other hotels in the Fairmont family.

“The introduction of concept and ambient suites to other Fairmont hotels and properties around the world is indeed an interesting idea worth considering,” says Ian Wilson, General Manager of Fairmont Singapore and Regional Vice President, Asia, Fairmont Hotels & Resorts.

“However, this plan is still in its infancy stage and we will not be able to provide any specific timeline of its fruition or future ‘expansion developments’.”

To date, citizenM hotel in Schipol, Amsterdam, which opened in June this year, is the first and only hotel to adopt Philips’ ambient lighting solutions in all its suites.
