An Eskimo mask fetched $4.6 million at the Winter Antiques Show in Manhattan, believed to be a record price for Native American art.

The mask was created by Yup’ik Eskimos in Alaska and was used for winter ceremonies. The type of mask was based on ideas envisioned in dreams by the society’s holy men and had stood in a private collection for half a century.

Other highlights at the show include a rare Martin Johnson Heade genre scene priced at roughly $2 million and a suite of soft portraits by Thomas Wilmer Dewing, which the Gerald Peters Gallery is offering for $1.8 million.
