Chanel’s 2014 Spring-Summer Ready-to-Wear collection features the Chanel Backpack. Karl Lagerfeld himself personalized the backpack, giving it an authentic and worn appearance. Playing with conventions, the Kaiser of fashion customized the backpacks with graffiti, tags, splashes of paint and colours, added details like scoubidous, snap hooks and luggage tags. The bag is made of thick linen canvas and is produced in adherence with the Chanel’s traditions and requires several hours to complete.

“There’s a certain lightness and a certain kind of humour in all this,” said Karl Lagerfeld about his daring jostling of codes for the Chanel Backpack.

Every motif on the backpack was specially conceived and reproduced thanks to a specific printing procedure which allows for a wide variety of shades and several colour effects. Iconic codes appearing on the backpack include the quilting of the backpack, the metal initials, the double C pendant and the painted logo. The luggage tag boasts an aged finish while the hand-woven handle and zipper tag are crafted from beautiful leather. Finally, a hand-woven scoubidou is attached to a metal snap hook, just like the good luck charms of teenagers, adding further originality to the bag.

A veritable reflection of Karl Lagerfeld’s endlessly renewed creativity, the Chanel 2014 Spring-Summer Backpack symbolises the instantly recognisable quintessence of Chanel. Available in two sizes (as well as a third tote-shaped version) and three colors, the backpack is available in Chanel boutiques, and also for a limited time at colette, from February 24 to March 8.
