Utility and mobility are Alexander Wang’s lasting notions, the subjects he reinterprets in each season. It’s a delicate balance straddling between them. Still, this collection came as demonstrative to movement not compromised by pragmatic functions.
Wang championed his lineup with geek high-collars, woven tunics and conspicuous jockey boots to match. Smoky gray coats lined with radioactive pink or yellow zippers were notable for Wang’s playful approaches to outerwear. They almost suggest a tinge of graffiti spray paint streaked across a harsher leather garb exterior. These pieces were rebellious and evocative – like an impressionable tween emerging from the urban stronghold armed against stormy life lessons.
But there was a twist in this often told rite of passage. Wang had a dozen models take center stage on a carousel mounted with air vents. And as hot gusts of air filtered through the louvers, the unassuming leather pieces morph – from black to blinding yellows and purples. The change of seasons has once again come full circle and this is the simple indulgence that makes an Alexander Wang show hard to resist.
